The Petanque Section is the newest sporting section of the
Club.
Petanque is a sport for all ages and abilities and men and
women compete with and against each other on equal terms.
It provides a good form of exercise and is
an excellent way of socialising, which is very beneficial
to all members, young and old.     Members can
use the Petanque Section purely as a source of sporting
and social activities, but many more experienced and
capable members frequently represent the Club in Regional
and National events.
Since becoming part of the Whitnash Sports & Social Club, the
Section, together with the main club, has developed a
fantastic, purpose-built, floodlit terrain which is the envy
of Petanque Clubs around the country, to the extent that,
last year, the English Ladies Top 8 finals were held at the
Club and the Club was also proud to be invited to host a
National EPA (English Petanque Association) competition.
The facilities, including a new Pavilion,
are being improved all the time, subject to available funds
and the recruitment of new members is a regular and ongoing
occurrence, mainly due to the success and pro-activeness of
the section and its members.
The Section holds Monday club nights (from 7.15pm)and Friday
afternoon sessions (from 2pm) every week of the year,
providing continuous activities for its members, and frequent
competitions (club competitions, regional and national) are
organised throughout the year.
This year, the Petanque Club entered five teams in the West
Midlands Regional Summer League competition, such is the
strength of their membership and thirteen members of the
Whitnash Petanque Club represented the West Midlands Region
in the National Championships in September 2010.
The Section is becoming a source to be
reckoned with, and has gained respect and praise for the
way in which it runs its affairs and develops the sport in
the region.
The Petanque Club intends to continue its pro-active approach
to encouraging new members (of all abilities) through the
initiatives already in place, in order to develop the sport.
